1 KINGS

CHAPTER 1

1  Now King Dau'yad was old and stricken in days, and they covered him with clothes, but he could not keep warm.*

*The Yahud’yath word here yakham can also mean to conceive

2 Therefore his servants said to him, "Let there be sought for my sovereign the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and cherish him, and let her lie* in your bosom, that my sovereign the king may keep warm."

*The Yahud’yath word here shakab can also be used a sexual reference

3 So they sought for a beautiful young lady throughout all the borders of Yashar'AL, and found Ab'ya'shag the Shunam'yth, and brought her to the king.

4 And the young lady was very beautiful, and she cherished the king, and served unto him, but the king did not know her.

5 Then Adan'Yah son of Khaga'yth exalted himself, saying, "I will be king." Then he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

6 Now his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, "Why have you done so?" and he was also a very handsome man, and he was born after Ab'shalum.

7 And he conferred with Yahu'ab son of Tsaru'Yah, and with Ab'yathar the ka’ahn (priest): and they following Adan'Yah helped him.

8 But Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest), and Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada, and Nathan the nab’ya (prophet), and Shama'ya, and Ra’ya, and the mighty men who belonged to Dau'yad, were not with Adan'Yah.

9 And Adan'Yah slaughtered sheep and cattle and fatlings by the stone of Zakhalath, which is beside Ayan Ragal, and he called all his brothers, the king's sons, and all the men of Yahudah, the king's servants:

10 but Nathan the nab’ya (prophet), and Ban'Yahu, and the mighty men, and Shalamah his brother, he did not call.

11 Then Nathan spoke to Bath Shaba mother of Shalamah, saying, "Have you not heard that Adan'Yah son of Khaga'yth reigns, and Dau'yad our sovereign does not know it?

12 Now therefore come, please let me give you counsel, that you may save your own being, and the being of your son Shalamah.

13 Go in to king Dau'yad, and tell him, 'Did not you, my sovereign, king, swear to your handmaid saying, Assuredly Shalamah your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? Why then does Adan'Yah reign?'

14 Behold, while you yet talk there with the king, I also will come in after you, and confirm your words."

15 And Bath Shaba went in to the king into the room. Now the king was very old, and Ab'ya'shag the Shunam'yth was serving the king.

16 And Bath Shaba bowed, and did obeisance to the king. And the king said, "What to you?”

17 And she said to him, "My sovereign, you swore by 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Your ALUAH to your handmaid, 'Assuredly Shalamah your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.'

18 Now behold, Adan'Yah reigns and you, my sovereign the king, do not know it.

19 And he has slain cattle and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all sons of the king, and Ab'yathar the ka’ahn (priest), and Yahu'ab the captain of the army, but he has not called Shalamah your servant.

20 And you, my sovereign the king, the eyes of all Yashar'AL are on you, that you should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my sovereign the king after him.

21 And it will be, when my sovereign the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Shalamah shall be counted offenders."

22 Behold, while she yet talked with the king, and Nathan the nab’ya (prophet) came in.

23 And they told the king, saying, "Behold, Nathan the nab’ya (prophet)!” And when he had come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

24 And Nathan said, "My sovereign the king, have you said, 'Adan'Yah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?'

25 For he is gone down this day, and has slain cattle and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and the captains of the army, and Ab'yathar the ka’ahn (priest). Behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and say, ‘KhaYah (abide) king Adan'Yah!'

26 But he has not called me, even me your servant, and Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest), and Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada, and your servant Shalamah.

27 Is this word done by my sovereign the king, and you have not shown to your servants who should sit on the throne of my sovereign the king after him?"

28 Then king Dau'yad answered: "Call to me Bath Shaba." And she came to the face of the king, and stood to the face of the king.

29 And the king swore and said, "As 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Abides, who has redeemed my being out of all adversity,

30 most certainly as I swore to you by 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, saying, 'Assuredly Shalamah your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,' most certainly so will I do this day."

31 Then Bath Shaba bowed with her face to the earth, and did obeisance to the king and said, "Let my sovereign king Dau'yad abide forever!"

32 And King Dau'yad said: "Call to me Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest), Nathan the nab’ya (prophet), and Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada." And they came before the king.

33 And the king said to them: "Take with you the servants of your sovereign, and cause Shalamah my son to ride on the mule that is my own, and bring him down to Gakhun (Gakhoon).

34 And Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest) and Nathan the nab’ya (prophet) will anoint him there king over Yashar'AL. And blow the trumpet and say, ‘KhaYah (abide) King Shalamah!'

35 Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, for he shall be king in my place. For I have appointed him to be prince over Yashar'AL and over Yahudah."

36 And Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada answered the king and said, “So Be It. May 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH of my sovereign the king, say so.

37 As 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has been with my sovereign the king, even so may he be with Shalamah, and make his throne greater than the throne of my sovereign king Dau'yad."

38 So Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest), and Nathan the nab’ya (prophet), and Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada, and the Karath'ya and the Palath'ya, went down, and caused Shalamah to ride on king Dau'yad's mule, and brought him to Gakhun.

39 And Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest) took the horn of oil out of the Tent and anointed Shalamah. And they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, “KhaYah (abide) King Shalamah!"

40 And all the people came up after him, and the people played with flutes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth shook with the sound of them.

41 And Adan'Yah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. When Yahu'ab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, "Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?"

42 While he yet spoke, behold, Yahu'nathan son of Ab'yathar the ka’ahn (priest) came: and Adan'Yah said, "Come in, for you are a worthy man, and bring good news."

43 And Yahu'nathan answered Adan'Yah, "Most certainly our sovereign king Dau'yad has made Shalamah king.

44 And the king has sent with him Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest), Nathan the nab’ya (prophet), Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada, and the Karath'ya and the Palath'ya, and they have caused him to ride on the king's mule.

45 And Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest) and Nathan the nab’ya (prophet) have anointed him king in Gakhun. And they have come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that you have heard.

46 Also, Shalamah sits on the throne of the reign.

47 And also the king's servants came to Barak our sovereign king Dau'yad, saying, ‘Let Your ALUAH make the name of Shalamah better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne,' and the king bowed himself on the bed.

48 Also thus said the king, 'Baruk be 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, who has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.'"

49 And all the guests of Adan'Yah were afraid, and rose up, and each man went his way.

50 And Adan'Yah feared because of Shalamah, and he arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

51 And it was told Shalamah, saying, "Behold, Adan'Yah fears King Shalamah, for behold, he has laid hold on the horns of the altar, saying, 'Let King Shalamah swear to me first that he will not slay his servant with the sword.'"

52 And Shalamah said, "If he shows himself a worthy man, not a hair of him shall fall to the earth, but if wickedness be found in him, he shall die."

53 So King Shalamah sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and did obeisance to King Shalamah, and Shalamah said to him, "Go to your house."

CHAPTER 2

1 Now the days of Dau'yad drew near that he should die, and he commanded Shalamah his son, saying,

2 "I am going the way of all the earth. You be strong therefore, and show yourself a man,

3 and keep the instruction of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Your ALUAH, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His right rulings, and His witnesses, according to that which is written in the Thur’ath of Mashah, that you will be prudent in all that you do, and wherever you turn yourself.

4 That 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) may establish His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your children take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their being, there shall not fail you,' He said, 'a man on the throne of Yashar'AL.'

5 "Moreover you know also what Yahu'ab son of Tsaru'Yah did to me, even what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Yashar'AL, to Ab'nar son of Nar, and to Amasha son of Yathar, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in shalam (peace), and put the blood of war on his sash that was about his waist, and in his shoes that were on his feet.

6 Do therefore according to your discernment, and do not let his gray head go down to Shal in shalam (peace).

7 But show kindness to sons of BAr'tsal’ya the Gal’ad’ya, and let them be of those who eat at your table, for so they came to me when I fled from Ab'shalum your brother.

8 "Behold, there is with you Shama'ya son of Gara, the Ban Yama’yan’ya, from Bakhar’ym, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Makhan'ym, but he came down to meet me at the Yardan, and I swore to him by 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), saying, 'I will not put you to death with the sword.'

9 Now therefore do not hold him guiltless, for you are a discerned man, and you will know what you ought to do to him, and you shall bring his gray head down to Sha'ul with blood."

10 And Dau'yad lay down with his fathers, and was buried in the city of Dau'yad.

11 And the days that Dau'yad reigned over Yashar'AL were forty years, seven years reigned he in Kha’brun, and thirty-three years reigned he in Yaru'shalam.

12 And Shalamah sat on the throne of Dau'yad his father, and his reign was firmly established.

13 Then Adan'Yah son of Khaga'yth came to Bath Shaba mother of Shalamah. And she said, "Do you come shalum (peaceably)?” And he said, “Shalum” (“Peaceably.”)

14 He said moreover, “I have a word to you.” And she said: "Speak.”

15 And he said, "You know that thereign was mine, and that all Yashar'AL put their faces on me, that I should reign. However the reign is turned around, and has become my brother's, for it was his from 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

16 Now I ask one petition of you. Do not deny me." And she said to him: "Speak.”

17 And he said, "Please speak to Shalamah the king, for he will not refuse your face, that he give me Ab'ya'shag the Shunam'yth as wife."

18 And Bath Shaba said, “Good. I will speak for you to the king."

19 And Bath Shaba therefore went to King Shalamah, to speak to him for Adan'Yah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a throne to be placed for the king's mother, and she sat on his right hand.

20 Then she said, "I ask one small petition of you, do not deny me." And the king said to her, "Ask on, my mother, for I will not deny you."

21 And she said, "Let Ab'ya'shag the Shunam'yth be given to Adan'Yah your brother as wife."

22 And King Shalamah answered his mother, "Why do you ask Ab'ya'shag the Shunam'yth for Adan'Yah? Ask for him the reign also, for he is my elder brother, even for him, and for Ab'yathar the ka’ahn (priest), and for Yahu'ab son of Tsaru'Yah."

23 Then King Shalamah swore by 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), saying, "ALUAH do so to me, and more also, if Adan'Yah has not spoken this word against his own being.

24 Now therefore as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Abides, who has established me, and placed me on the throne of Dau'yad my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, surely Adan'Yah shall be put to death this day."

25 And King Shalamah sent by Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada, and he fell upon him, so that he died.

26 Then to Ab'yathar the ka’ahn (priest) the king said, "Go to Ana’thath, to your own fields, for you are worthy of death. But I will not at this time put you to death, because you bore the Ark of the sovereign 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) before Dau'yad my father, and because you were afflicted in all in which my father was afflicted."

27 So Shalamah thrust out Ab'yathar from being ka’ahn (priest) to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), that he might fulfill the Word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), which he spoke concerning the house of Al’ya in Shalah.

28 And the report came to Yahu'ab, for Yahu'ab had turned after Adan'Yah, though he did not turn after Ab'shalum. And Yahu'ab fled to the Tent of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

29 And it was told King Shalamah, "Yahu'ab has fled to the Tent of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and behold, he is by the altar." Then Shalamah sent Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada, saying, "Go, fall on him."

30 And Ban'Yahu came to the Tent of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and said to him, "Thus says the king, 'Come forth!'" And he said, "No, but I will die here." And Ban'Yahu brought the king word again, saying, "Thus said Yahu'ab, and thus he answered me."

31 And the king said to him, "Do as he has said, and fall on him, and bury him, that you may take away the blood, which Yahu'ab shed without cause, from me and from my father's house.

32 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) will return his blood on his own head, because he fell on two men more righteous and better than he, and killed them with the sword, and my father Dau'yad did not know it: Ab'nar son of Nar, captain of the army of Yashar'AL, and Amasha son of Yathar, captain of the army of Yahudah.

33 So shall their blood return on the head of Yahu'ab, and on the head of his seed forever. But to Dau'yad, and to his seed, and to his house, and to his throne, there shall be shalum (peace) forever from 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH)."

34 Then Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada went up, and fell upon him, and killed him, and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

35 And the king put Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada in his place over the army, and Tsaduq the ka’ahn (priest) did the king put in the place of Ab'yathar.

36 And the king sent and called for Shama'ya, and said to him, "Build yourself a house in Yaru'shalam, and abide there, and do not go out from there anywhere.

37 For on the day you go out, and pass over the brook Qadar'un (Qadar'oon), know for certain that you shall surely die: your blood shall be on your own head."

38 And Shama'ya said to the king, "The saying is good. As my sovereign the king has said, so will your servant do." And Shama'ya abided in Yaru'shalam many days.

39 And it came to be at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shama'ya ran away to Ak'yash, son of Makah, king of Gath. And they told Shama'ya, saying, "Behold, your servants are in Gath."

40 And Shama'ya arose, and saddled his donkey, and went to Gath to Ak'yash, to seek his servants, and Shama'ya went, and brought his servants from Gath.

41 And it was told Shalamah that Shama'ya had gone from Yaru'shalam to Gath, and was come again.

42 And the king sent and called for Shama'ya, and said to him, "Did I not adjure you by 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and warn you saying, 'Know for certain, that on the day you go out, and walk abroad any where, you shall surely die?' And you said to me, 'The saying that I have heard is good.'

43 Why then have you not kept the oath of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and the commandment that I have instructed you with?"

44 And the king said moreover to Shama'ya, "You know all the wickedness which your heart is privy to, that you did to Dau'yad my father. Therefore 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) shall return your wickedness on your own head.

45 But King Shalamah shall be Baruk, and the throne of Dau'yad shall be established before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) forever."

46 So the king commanded Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada, and he went out, and fell upon him, so that he died. And the reign was established in the hand of Shalamah.

CHAPTER 3

1 And Shalamah made affinity with Para'ah king of Ma’tsara’ym, and took Para'ah's daughter, and brought her into the city of Dau'yad, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and the wall of Yaru'shalam all around.

2 Only the people slaughtered in the high places, because there was no house built for the name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) until those days.

3 And Shalamah loved 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), walking in the statutes of Dau'yad his father: only he slaughtered and burnt incense in the high places.

4 And the king went to Gaba’nah* to slaughter there, for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Shalamah offer on that altar.

5 In Gaba’un (Gaba’oon)* 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) appeared to Shalamah in a dream by night, and ALUAH said: "Ask what I shall give to you."

*Note the Masoretic difference between these two within these verses

6 And Shalamah said, "You have shown to Your servant Dau'yad my father great loving kindness, according as he walked before You in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

7 Now 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) MY ALUAH, You have made Your servant king instead of Dau'yad my father. I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in.

8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people which You have chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

9 And give Your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge Your people, to the understanding between good for evil, for who is able to judge this, Your great people?"

10 And the speech pleased the eyes of The Sovereign, that Shalamah had asked this word.

11 And ALUAH said to him, "Because you have asked this word, and have not asked for yourself many days, neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the being of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern right ruling,

12 behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a discerned and an understanding heart, so that there has been none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like you.

13 And I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and esteem, so that there shall not be any among the kings like you, all your days.

14 If you will walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father Dau'yad walked, then I will lengthen your days."

15 And Shalamah awoke, and behold, it was a dream! Then he came to Yaru'shalam, and stood before the Ark of the Bar’yath (covenant) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and offered up burnt offerings, offered shalam’ym (peace) offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

16 Then two women, whores, came to the king, and stood before him.

17 And one woman said, "Oh, my sovereign, I and this woman abide in one house. And I gave birth a child with her in the house.

18 And it came to be the third day after I gave birth, that this woman gave birth also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.

19 This woman's child died in the night, because she lay on it.

20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while your handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

21 When I rose in the rising to nurse my child, behold, it was dead, but when I had looked at it in the rising, behold, it was not my son, whom I bore."

22 And the other woman said, "No, but the living is my son, and the dead is your son." And this said, "No, but the dead is your son, and the living is my son." Thus they spoke before the king.

23 Then the king said, "The one says, 'This is my son who abides, and your son is the dead,' and the other says, 'No, but your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.'"

24 And the king said, "Get me a sword." And they brought a sword before the king.

25 And the king said, "Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other."

26 Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, "Oh, my sovereign, give her the living child, and in no way kill it!" But the other said, "It shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide it."

27 Then the king answered, "Give her the living child, and in no way kill it. She is its mother."

28 And all Yashar'AL heard of the right ruling which the king had ruled, and they feared the king: for they saw that the discernment of ALUAH was in him, to do right ruling.

CHAPTER 4

1 And it was, King Shalamah reigned over all Yashar'AL.

2 And these were the princes whom he had: Azar'Yahu son of Tsaduq, the ka’ahn (priest),

3 AL’ya’kharap and Akh'Yah, sons of Sha'yash'a, scribes, Yahu'shapat son of Akh'ya'lud (Akh'ya'lood), the recorder,

4 and Ban'Yahu son of Yahu'yada was over the army, and Tsaduq and Ab'yathar: ka’ahn’ym (priests),

5 and Azar'Yahu son of Nathan was over the officers, and Zabud son of Nathan was ka'ahn (priest), the king's friend,

6 and Akh’yashar was over the household, and Adan'yaram son of Abada was over the men subject to forced labor.

7 And Shalamah had twelve officers over all Yashar'AL, who provided food for the king and his household: each man had to make provision for a month in the year.

8 And these are their names: Ban Khur, in the mountain of Apara’ym,

9 Ban Daqar, in Maqats, and in Shalab’ym, and Bayath Shamash, and Ayalun (Aya’loon) Bayath Khanan,

10 Ban Khasad, in Arab’uth (Arab’ooth), to him Shakah, and all the land of Khapar,

11 Ban Ab’ya’nadab, in all the height of Dar, he had Tapath the daughter of Shalamah as wife,

12 Bana son of Akh'ya'lud (Akh'ya'lood), in Thanak and Magadu, and all Bayath Shan which is beside Tsara’than’ah, beneath to Yazara'AL, from Bayath Shan to Abal Makhu'lah, as far as beyond to Yaqa’mam,

13 Ban Gabar, in Ramath Gal'ad, to him the towns of Ya’ayar son of Mana’shah, which are in Gal'ad, to him the region of Argab, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars,

14 Akh’ya’nadab son of Ada (Uh’da): Makhan'ym’ah,

15 Akh’ya’mats, in Nap'thal'ya, he also took Basham’tha daughter of Shalamah as wife,

16 Bana son of Khusha’ya, in Ashar and Ba’aluth,

17 Yahu'shapat son of Parukh, in Ya’shasha’kar,

18 Shama'ya son of AL’A, in Ban’yaman,

19 Gabar son of Ar’ya, in the land of Gal'ad, the land of Saya’khun (Saya’khoon) king of the Amar'ya and of A’uga king of Bashan, and the one officer who was in the land.

20 Yahudah and Yashar'AL were many as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and making merry.

21 And Shalamah ruled over all the reigns from the River to the land of the Palash'tha'ym, and to the border of Ma’tsara’ym: they brought tribute, and served Shalamah all the days of his khaYah (life).

22 And Shalamah's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and sixty measures of meal,

23 ten head of fat cattle, and twenty head of cattle out of the pastures, and one hundred sheep, besides harts, and gazelles, and roebucks, and fattened fowl.

24 For he had rule in all on this side the River, from Thapa’sakh even to Azah, over all the kings on this side the River: and he had shalum (peace) on all sides around him.

25 And Yahudah and Yashar'AL abided safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Ba'ar Shaba, all the days of Shalamah.

26 And Shalamah had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.

27 And those officers provided food for King Shalamah, and for all who came to King Shalamah's table, every man in his month, no lack in their supply.

28 And barley also and straw for the horses and swift steeds brought they to the place that every man was to be according to his charge.

29 And ALUAH gave Shalamah discernment and understanding exceeding much, and very great understanding, even as the sand on the seashore.

30 And Shalamah's discernment excelled the discernment of all the children of the east, and all the discernment of Ma’tsara’ym.

31 For he was discerned than all men, than Ayathan the Azar’tha’ya, and Ha’yaman, and Kal’kal, and Darda, sons of Makhul: and his fame was in all the nations all around.

32 And he spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were one thousand and five.

33 And he spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Laba'nun (Laba’noon) even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall, he spoke also of beasts, and of birds, and of creeping creatures, and of fish.

34 And there came of all peoples to hear the discernment of Shalamah, from all kings of the earth, who had heard of his discernment.

CHAPTER 5

1 And Kha'yaram king of Tsur sent his servants to Shalamah, for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father: for Kha'yaram was loved to Dau’yad all the days.

2 And Shalamah sent to Kha'yaram, saying,

3 "You know how that Dau'yad my father could not build a house for the name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) his ALUAH for the wars which were about him on every side, until 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) put them under the soles of his feet.

4 But now 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) MY ALUAH has given me rest on every side. There is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence.

5 And behold, I purpose to build a house for the name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) MY ALUAH, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) spoke to Dau'yad my father, saying, 'Your son, whom I will put on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My Name.'

6 Now therefore command that they cut me cedar trees out of Laba'nun. And my servants shall be with your servants, and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you shall say. For you know that there is not among us any who knows how to cut timber like the Tsadan'ym."

7 And it came to be, when Kha'yaram heard the words of Shalamah, that he rejoiced greatly and said, "Baruk is 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) this day, who has given to Dau'yad a discerned son over this great people."

8 And Kha'yaram sent to Shalamah, saying, "I have heard the message which you have sent to me. I will do all your desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

9 My servants shall bring them down from Laba'nun to the sea. And I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you shall receive them. And you shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household."

10 So Kha'yaram gave Shalamah timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire.

11 And Shalamah gave Kha'yaram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil. Shalamah gave this to Kha'yaram year by year.

12 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) gave Shalamah discernment, as He promised him, and there was shalam (peace) between Kha'yaram and Shalamah, and they two made a Bar’yath (treaty) together.

13 And King Shalamah raised forced labor out of all Yashar'AL, and the forced labor was thirty thousand men.

14 And he sent them to Laba'nun, ten thousand a month by courses, a month they were in Laba'nun, and two months at home, and Adan'yaram was over the men subject to forced labor.

15 And Shalamah had seventy thousand who bore burdens, and eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains,

16 besides Shalamah's chief officers who were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, who bore rule over the people who labored in the work.

17 And the king commanded, and they cut out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with worked stone.

18 And Shalamah's builders and Kha'yaram's builders and the Gabal’ym did fashion them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.

CHAPTER 6

1 And it came to be in the eightieth year and four hundredth year* after the children of Yashar'AL were come out of the land of Ma’tsara’ym, in the fourth year of Shalamah's reign over Yashar'AL, in the month of splendor,** which is the second month, that he began to build the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

*The Masoretic reads 480 years. However, the Septuagint reads 440 years

** The Yahud’yath word zu (zoo) here used, however, only Ab’yab (first month) had a month name: See Also Zech 7:1

2 And the House which King Shalamah built for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), its length was sixty cubits, and its breadth twenty, and its height thirty cubits.*

*The Septuagint reads forty cubits in length, twenty in breadth, and height of twenty-five cubits

3 And the porch before the Hayakal of the House, twenty cubits was its length, according to the breadth of the house, ten cubits was its breadth before the house.

4 And for the House he made windows of fixed lattice work.

5 And against the wall of the House he built stories all around, against the walls of the house all around, both of the Hayakal and of the Inner Made Apart Place, and he made side rooms all around.

6 The nethermost story was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad, for on the outside he made offsets of the house all around, that should not have hold in the walls of the house.

7 And the House, when it was in building, was built of stone prepared at the quarry, and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

8 And the door for the middle side rooms was in the right side of the House: and they went up by winding stairs into the middle, and out of the middle into the third.

9 So he built the House, and finished it, and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.

10 And he built the stories against all the house, each five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

11 And the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to Shalamah saying,

12 "Concerning this House which you are building, if you will walk in My statutes, and execute My right rulings, and keep all My commandments to walk in them, then will I establish My Word with you, which I spoke to Dau'yad your father.

13 And I will abide among the children of Yashar'AL, and I will not forsake My people Yashar'AL."

14 So Shalamah built the house and finished it.

15 And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar: from the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood, and he covered the floor of the house with boards of fir.

16 And he built twenty cubits on the hinder part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the walls: he built for it within, for an Inner Made Apart Place, even for the most Made Apart place.

17 And the House, that is, the Hayakal before the face, was forty cubits.

18 And there was cedar on the house within, carved with buds and open flowers: all was cedar, there was no stone seen.

19 And he prepared an Inner Made Apart Place in the midst of the house within, to place there the Ark of the Bar’yath (covenant) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

20 And within the Inner Made Apart Place was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in its height, and he overlaid it with pure gold: and he covered the altar with cedar.

21 So Shalamah overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he drew chains of gold across before the Inner Made Apart Place, and he overlaid it with gold.

22 And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until all the house was finished: also the whole altar that belonged to the Inner Made Apart Place he overlaid with gold.

23 And in the Inner Made Apart Place he made two karub'ym of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

24 And five cubits was the one wing of the karub, and five cubits the other wing of the karub: from the uttermost part of the one wing to the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

25 And the other karub was ten cubits: both the karub'ym were of one measure and one form.

26 And the height of the one karub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other karub.

27 And he placed the karub'ym within the inner house, and the wings of the karub'ym were stretched forth, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other karub touched the other wall, and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

28 And he overlaid the karub'ym with gold.

29 And he carved all the walls of the house around with carved figures of karub'ym and palm trees and open flowers, inside and outside.

30 And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, inside and outside.

31 For the entrance of the Inner Made Apart Place he made doors of olive wood: the lintel, door posts, were a fifth.

32 So two doors were of olive wood, and he carved on them carvings of karub'ym and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and he spread the gold on the karub'ym, and on the palm trees.

33 So also made he for the entrance of the Hayakal door posts of olive wood, out of a fourth,

34 and two doors of fir wood: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

35 And he carved karub'ym and palm trees and open flowers, and he overlaid them with gold fitted on the engraved work.

36 And he built the inner court with three courses of cut stone, and a course of cedar beams.

37 In the fourth year was the foundation of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) laid, in the splendor moon.*

38 In the eleventh year, in the moon of rain,* which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all its parts, and according to all its fashion. So was he seven years in building it.

CHAPTER 7

1 And Shalamah built his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.

2 For he built the house of the forest of Laba'nun, its length was one hundred cubits, and its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits, on four rows of cedar columns, with cedar beams on the columns.

3 And it was covered with cedar above over the forty-five beams, that were on the columns, fifteen in a row.

4 And there were beams in three rows, and window was over against window in three ranks.

5 And All the doors and posts were made square with beams: and window was over against window in three ranks.

6 And he made the porch of columns, its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth thirty cubits,* and a porch before them, and columns and a threshold before them.

*The Septuagint reads length of fifty cubits and breadth of fifty cubits

7 And he made the porch of the throne where he was to judge, even the porch of right ruling: and it was covered with cedar from floor to floor.

8 And his house where he was to abide, the other court within the porch, was of the like work. And he made also a house for Para'ah's daughter, whom Shalamah had taken as wife, like this porch.

9 All these were of costly stones, even of cut stone, according to measure, trimmed with a saw, inside and outside, even from the foundation to the coping, and so on the outside to the great court.

10 And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits.

11 And above were costly stones, even cut stone, according to measure, and cedar wood.

12 And the great court around had three courses of cut stone, and a course of cedar beams, like as the inner court of the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and the porch of the house.

13 And King Shalamah sent and brought Kha'yaram from Tsar.

14 The son of a widow of the tribe of Nap'thal'ya, and his father was a man of Tsar, a worker in bronze, and he was filled with discernment and understanding and skill, to work all works in bronze. So he came to King Shalamah, and performed all his work.

15 For he fashioned the two columns of bronze, eighteen cubits high: and a line of twelve cubits encircled either of them about.

16 And he made two capitals of molten bronze, to put on the tops of the columns: the height of the one capital was five cubits, and the height of the other capital was five cubits.

17 A lattice network, and wreaths of chain work, for the capitals which were on the top of the columns, seven for the one capital, and seven for the other capital.

18 So he made the columns, and there were two rows around on the one network, to cover the capitals that were on the top of the columns: and so did he for the other capital.

19 And the capitals that were on the top of the columns in the porch were from lily work, four cubits.

20 And there were capitals above also on the two columns, close by the belly which was beside the network: and the pomegranates were two hundred, in rows around on the other capital.

21 And he put up the columns at the porch of the Hayakal: and he put up the right pillar, and called its name Yaka’yan, and he put up the left pillar, and called its name Ba’az.*

22 And on the top of the columns was lily work: so was the work of the columns finished.

23 And he made the molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and its height was five cubits, and a line of thirty cubits encircled it.

24 And under its brim around there were buds which encircled it, for ten cubits, encircling the sea: the buds were in two rows, cast when it was cast.

25 It stood on twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east, and the sea was set on them above, and all their hinder parts were inward.

26 And it was a handbreadth thick: and its brim was worked like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily: it held two thousand baths.

27 And he made the ten bases of bronze, four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits its breadth, and three cubits its height.

28 And this was the work of the bases: they had panels, and there were panels between the ledges,

29 and on the panels that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and karub'ym, and on the ledges there was a pedestal above, and beneath the lions and oxen were wreaths of hanging work.

30 And every base had four bronze wheels, and axles of bronze, and the four feet of it had supports: beneath the basin were the supports molten, with wreaths at the side of each.

31 And the mouth of it within the capital and above was a cubit: and its mouth was round after the work of a pedestal, a cubit and a half, and also on its mouth were engravings, and their panels were foursquare, not round.

32 And the four wheels were underneath the panels, and the axles of the wheels were in the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit.

33 And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axles, and their rims, and their spokes, and their naves, were all molten.

34 And there were four supports at the four corners of each base: its supports were of the base itself.

35 And in the top of the base was there a round compass half a cubit high, and on the top of the base its stays and its panels were of the same.

36 And on the plates of its stays, and on its panels, he engraved karub'ym, lions, and palm trees, according to the space of each, with wreaths all around.

37 Like this, he made ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one form.

38 And he made ten batransgressions of bronze: one basin contained forty baths, and every basin was four cubits, and on every one of the ten bases one basin.

39 And he put the bases, five on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house: and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward, toward the south.

40 And Kha'yaram made the batransgressions, and the shovels, and the batransgressions. So Kha'yaram made an end of doing all the work that he worked for King Shalamah in the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH):

41 the two columns, and the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the columns, and the two networks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the columns,

42 and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the columns,

43 and the ten bases, and the ten batransgressions on the bases,

44 and the one sea, and the twelve oxen under the sea,

45 and the pots, and the shovels, and the batransgressions: even all these vessels, which Kha'yaram made for King Shalamah, in the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), were of burnished bronze.

46 In the plain of the Yardan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Sak’uth and Tsara’than.

47 And Shalamah left all the vessels, because they were exceeding many: the weight of the bronze could not be found out.

48 So Shalamah made all the vessels that were in the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH): the golden altar, and the table whereupon the show bread was, of gold,

49 and the lampstands, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the Inner Made Apart Place, of pure gold, and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, of gold,

50 and the cups, and the snuffers, and the batransgressions, and the spoons, and the fire pans, of pure gold, and the hinges, both for the doors of the inner house, the most Made Apart place, and for the doors of the House, of the Hayakal, of gold.

51 Thus all the work that King Shalamah worked in the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) was finished. And Shalamah brought in the Made Apart items of Dau'yad his father: the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

CHAPTER 8

1 Then Shalamah assembled the elders of Yashar'AL, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers' of the children of Yashar'AL, to King Shalamah in Yaru'shalam, to bring up the Ark of the Bar’yath (covenant) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) out of the city of Dau'yad, which is Tsa'yun.

2 And all the men of Yashar'AL assembled themselves to King Shalamah in the feast, in the perennial moon,* which is the seventh month.

*Derives from the word Ayathan’ym to mean perennial or ever-flowing

3 And all the elders of Yashar'AL came, and the ka’ahn’ym (priests) took up the Ark.

4 And they brought up the Ark of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and the Tent of Meeting, and all the Made Apart vessels that were in the Tent, even these did the ka’ahn’ym (priests) and the Lu'ym bring up.

5 And King Shalamah and all the congregation of Yashar'AL, who were assembled to him, were with him before the Ark, slaughtering sheep and cattle, that could not be counted nor numbered for multitude.

6 And the ka’ahn’ym (priests) brought in the Ark of the Bar’yath (covenant) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) to its place, into the Inner Made Apart Place of the house, to the most Made Apart place, even under the wings of the karub'ym.

7 For the karub'ym spread forth their wings over the place of the Ark, and the karub'ym covered the Ark and its poles above.

8 And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the Made Apart place before the Inner Made Apart Place, but they were not seen outside: and there they are to this day.

9 There was nothing in the Ark except the two tables of stone which Mashah put there in Kharab, when 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) made an agreement with the children of Yashar'AL, when they came out of the land of Ma’tsara’ym.

10 And it came to pass, when the ka’ahn’ym(priests) were come out of the Made Apart place, that the cloud filled the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH),

11 so that the ka’ahn’ym (priests) could not stand to serve by reason of the cloud, for the esteem of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) filled the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

12 Then Shalamah said, "𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has said that He would abide in the thick darkness.

13 I have surely built You a house of habitation, a place for You to abide in forever."

14 And the king turned his face about, and he Barak all the assembly of Yashar'AL: and all the assembly of Yashar'AL stood.

15 And he said, "Baruk is 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, who spoke with His mouth to Dau'yad your father, and has with His hand fulfilled it, saying,

16 'Since the day that I brought forth My people Yashar'AL out of Ma’tsara’ym, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Yashar'AL to build a House, that My Name will be there, but I chose Dau'yad to be over My people Yashar'AL.'

17 "Now it was in the heart of Dau'yad my father to build a House for The Name OF 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL.

18 But 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said to Dau'yad my father, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a House for My Name, you did well that it was in your heart.

19 But you shall not build the House, but your son who shall come forth out of your body, he shall build the House for My Name.'

20 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has established His Word that He spoke, for I have risen up in the place of Dau'yad my father, and I sit on the throne of Yashar'AL, as 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) promised, and have built the House for the Name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL.

21 There I have put a place for the Ark, in which is the Bar’yath(covenant) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), which He made with our fathers, when He brought them out of the land of Ma’tsara’ym."

22 And Shalamah stood before the altar of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) before all the assembly of Yashar'AL, and spread forth his hands toward shama'ym,

23 and he said, " O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, there is no ALUAH like You, in shama'ym above, or on earth beneath, who keep the Bar’yath (covenant) and loving kindness with Your servants, who walk before You with all their heart,

24 who have kept with Your servant Dau'yad my father that which You promised him. Indeed, You spoke with Your mouth, and have fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day.

25 Now therefore, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, keep with Your servant Dau'yad my father that which You have promised him, saying, 'There shall not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Yashar'AL, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk before Me as you have walked before Me.'

26 "Now therefore, O ALUAH of Yashar'AL, please let Your Word be true, which You spoke to Your servant Dau'yad my father.

27 But will ALUAH in very deed abide on the earth? Behold, the shama'ym and the shama'ym of shama'ym cannot contain You, how much less this house that I have built!

28 And yet regard for the prayer of Your servant, and for his supplication, O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) MY ALUAH, to hear the cry and to the prayer which Your servant prays before you this day,

29 that Your eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which You have said, 'My Name shall be there,' to heed unto the prayer which Your servant shall pray toward this place.

30 And hear the supplication of Your servant, and of Your people Yashar'AL, when they shall pray toward this place. And You, hear in shama'ym, Your abiding place, and when You hear, forgive

31 "If a man transgresses against his neighbor, and an oath is laid on him to cause him to swear, and he comes and swear before your altar in this House,

32 then hear in shama'ym, and act, and judge your servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way on his own head, and declaring right the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

33 "When Your people Yashar'AL are struck down to the face of an enemy, because they have transgressed against You, if they turn again to You, and confess Your Name, and pray and make supplication to You in this House:

34 then hear in shama'ym, and forgive the iniquity of Your people Yashar'AL, and bring them again to the land which You gave to their fathers.

35 "When the sky is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have transgressed against you, if they pray toward this place, and confess Your Name, and turn from their transgression when You afflict them:

36 then hear in shama'ym, and forgive the iniquity of your servants, and of Your people Yashar'AL, when You teach them the good way in which they should walk, and send rain on Your land, which You have given to your people for an inheritance.

37 "If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight, mildew, locust or caterpillar, if their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities, every plague, every sickness there is,

38 every prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all Your people Yashar'AL, who shall each know the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this House:

39 then hear in shama'ym, Your abiding place, and forgive, and act, and render to every man according to all his ways, whose heart You know: For You, even You alone, know the hearts of all the sons of men,

40 that they may fear You all the days that they abide in the land which you gave to our fathers.

41 "Moreover concerning the foreigner, who is not of your people Yashar'AL, when he shall come out of a far land for Your Name's sake,

42 for they shall hear of Your Great Name, and of Your mighty hand, and of Your outstretched arm, when he shall come and pray toward this House,

43 hear in shama'ym, Your abiding place, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to You for, that all the peoples of the earth will know Your Name, to fear You, as do Your people Yashar'AL, and that they will know that this House which I have built is called by Your Name.

44 "If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way You shall send them, and they pray to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) toward the city which You have chosen, and toward the House which I have built for Your Name,

45 then hear in shama'ym their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

46 If they transgress against you, for there is no man who does not transgress, and You are angry with them, and give them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near,

47 yet if they shall repent in the land where they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication to You in the land of those who carried them captive, saying, 'We have transgressed, and have done perversely, we have dealt wickedly,'

48 if they return to You with all their heart and with all their being in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray to You toward their land, that You gave to their fathers, the city that You have chosen, and the House that I have built for Your Name:

49 then hear their prayer and their supplication in shama'ym, Your abiding place, and maintain their cause,

50 and forgive Your people who have transgressed against you, and all their transgressions in which they have transgressed against You, and give them compassion before those who carried them captive, that they will have compassion on them,

51 for they are Your people, and Your inheritance, which You brought forth out of Ma’tsara’ym, from the midst of the furnace of iron,

52 that Your eyes may be open to the supplication of Your servant, and to the supplication of Your people Yashar'AL, to listen to them whenever they cry to You.

53 For You separated them from among all the peoples of the earth, to be Your inheritance, as You spoke by Mashah Your servant, when You brought our fathers out of Ma’tsara’ym, O Sovereign 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH)."

54 And it was so, that when Shalamah had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), he arose from before the altar of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread forth toward shama'ym.

55 And he stood, and he Barak all the assembly of Yashar'AL with a loud voice, saying,

56 "Baruk be 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), who has given rest to His people Yashar'AL, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised by Mashah His servant.

57 Be 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Our ALUAH with us, as He was with our fathers. He will not leave us nor forsake us,

58 to incline our hearts to Him, to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commandments, and His statutes, and His right rulings, which He commanded our fathers.

59 And be these, my words, with which I have made supplication before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), be near to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Our ALUAH day and night, that He may maintain the cause of His servant, and the cause of His people Yashar'AL, as every day shall require,

60 that all the peoples of the earth will know that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), He is ALUAH. There is none else.

61 “Let your heart therefore be whole with 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Our ALUAH, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day."

62 And the king, and all Yashar'AL with him, offered slaughter before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

63 And Shalamah offered for the slaughter of shalam’ym (peace) offerings, which he offered to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), two and twenty thousand head of cattle, and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Yashar'AL dedicated the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

64 In that day did the king make the middle of the court Made Apart that was before the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), for there he offered the burnt offering, and the meal offering, and the fat of the shalam’ym (peace) offerings, because the bronze altar that was to the face of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) was too little to receive the burnt offering, and the meal offering, and the fat of the shalam’ym (peace) offerings.

65 So Shalamah held the feast at that time, and all Yashar'AL with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Khamath to the brook of Ma’tsara’ym, to the face of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Our ALUAH, seven days and seven days: fourteen days.*

*Many translations, along with the Masoretic, note 14 days total. However, the Septuagint and a few translations omit the 14 days and say only 7 days, in observance with The Feast of Tabernacles (See Uyaqra 23)

66 In the eighth day he sent the people away, and they Barak the king, and went to their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) had shown to Dau'yad His servant, and to Yashar'AL His people.

CHAPTER 9

1 And it came to be, when Shalamah had finished the building of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and the king's house, and all Shalamah's desire which he was pleased to do,

2 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) appeared to Shalamah the second time, as he had appeared to him in Gaba’un.

3 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your supplication, that you have made before Me. I have made this house Made Apart, which you have built, to put My Name there forever, and My eyes and My heart shall be there perpetually.

4 As for you, if you will walk before Me, as Dau'yad your father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep My statutes and My right rulings,

5 then I will establish the throne of your reign over Yashar'AL forever, according as I promised to Dau'yad your father, saying, 'There shall not fail you a man on the throne of Yashar'AL.'

6 But if you turn away from following Me, you or your children, and not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have placed before you, but shall go and serve other idols, and worship them,

7 then will I cut off Yashar'AL out of the land which I have given them, and this House, which I have made Made Apart for My Name, will I cast out of My sight, and Yashar'AL shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

8 Though this House is so high, yet shall everyone who passes by it be astonished, and shall hiss, and they shall say, 'Why has 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) done thus to this land, and to this house?'

9 and they shall answer, 'Because they forsook 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Their ALUAH, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Ma’tsara’ym, and laid hold of other idols, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has brought all this evil on them.'"

10 And it came to be at the end of twenty years, that Shalamah had built the two houses, the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) and the king's house,

11 Kha'yaram the king of Tsar had furnished Shalamah with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire, that then King Shalamah gave Kha'yaram twenty cities in the land of Gal’yal.

12 And Kha'yaram came out from Tsar to see the cities which Shalamah had given him, and they did not please him.

13 And he said, "What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?" He called them the land of Kabul to this day.

14 And Kha'yaram sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold.

15 And this is the reason of the forced labor which King Shalamah raised, to build the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and his own house, and Malua, and the wall of Yaru'shalam, and Khazar, and Magadu, and Gazar.

16 Para'ah king of Ma’tsara’ym had gone up, and taken Gazar, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Kanan'ya who dwelled in the city, and given it for a portion to his daughter, Shalamah's wife.

17 And Shalamah built Gazar, and Bayath Kharan the lower,

18 and Ba’alath, and Thadamar in the wilderness, in the land,

19 and all the storage cities that Shalamah had, and the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and that which Shalamah desired to build for his pleasure in Yaru'shalam, and in Laba'nun, and in all the land of his rule.

20 All the people who were left of the Amar'ya, the Khath'ya, the Paraz’ya, the Khu’ya, and the Yabus’ya, who were not of the children of Yashar'AL,

21 their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Yashar'AL were not able utterly to destroy, of them did Shalamah raise a forced labor of bondservants to this day.

22 But of the children of Yashar'AL did Shalamah make no bondservants, but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

23 These were the chief officers who were over Shalamah's work, five hundred and fifty, who bore rule over the people who labored in the work.

24 But Para'ah's daughter came up out of the city of Dau'yad to her house that was built for her: then was built Malua.

25 And three times a year did Shalamah offer burnt offerings and shalam’ym (peace) offerings on the altar which he built to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), burning incense therewith that was before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH). So he finished the House.

26 And King Shalamah made a fleet of ships in A'tsa'yun Gabar, that is AL’uth, on the shore of the sea of reeds, in the land of Adum.

27 And Kha'yaram sent in the fleet his servants, sailors who had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Shalamah.

28 And they came to A’up’yarah (A’oop’yarah),* and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents,* and brought it to King Shalamah.

CHAPTER 10

1 When the sovereigness of Shaba heard of the report of Shalamah concerning The Name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), she came to prove him with hard questions.

2 And she came to Yaru'shalam with a very great army, with camels that bore spices, and very much gold, and precious stones, and when she was come to Shalamah, she talked with him of all that was in her heart.

3 And Shalamah answered to her, all her questions: there was not anything hidden from the king which he did not tell her.

4 When the sovereigness of Shaba had seen all the discernment of Shalamah, and the House that he had built,

5 and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his attendants, and their garments, and his cup bearers, and his ascent by which he went up to the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), there was no more rukh in her.

6 Then she said to the king, "It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts, and of your discernment.

7 However I did not trust the words until I came, and my eyes had seen it. Behold, the half was not told me! Your discernment and prosperity exceed the report which I heard.

8 Joyful are your men, joyful are these your servants, who stand continually before you, who hear your discernment.

9 Baruk is 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Your ALUAH, who delighted in you, to place you on the throne of Yashar'AL. Because 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) loved Yashar'AL forever, therefore made He you king, to do right ruling and righteousness."

10 And she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones. There came no more such abundance of spices as these which the sovereigness of Shaba gave to King Shalamah.

11 The fleet also of Kha'yaram, that brought gold from A’up’yar, brought in from Ap’yar* great plenty of almug trees and precious stones.

*The Masoretic uses three different variations for this word: See here and 1 Malak’ym 9:28

12 And the king made of the almug trees columns for the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and for the king's house, harps also and stringed instruments for the singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen, to this day.

13 And King Shalamah gave to the sovereigness of Shaba all her desire, whatever she asked, besides that which Shalamah gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned, and went to her own land, she and her servants.

14 Now the weight of gold that came to Shalamah in one year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold,

15 besides the traders, and the traffic of the merchants, and of all the kings of the Arab, and of the governors of the land.

16 And King Shalamah made two hundred bucklers of beaten gold, six hundred of gold went to one buckler.

17 and three hundred shields of beaten gold, three man’ym of gold went to one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Laba'nun.

18 Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the finest gold.

19 There were six steps to the throne, and the top of the throne was round behind, and there were stays on either side by the place of the seat, and two lions standing beside the stays.

20 And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other on the six steps: there was nothing like it made in any reign.

21 And all King Shalamah's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Laba'nun were of pure gold: none were of silver, it was nothing accounted of in the days of Shalamah.

22 For the king had at sea a fleet of Tharash'yash with the fleet of Kha'yaram: once every three years came the fleet of Tharash'yash, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.

23 So King Shalamah exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches and in discernment.

24 And all the earth sought the face of Shalamah, to hear his discernment, which ALUAH had put in his heart.

25 And they brought every man his tribute, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and clothing, and armor, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.

26 And Shalamah gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots,* and twelve thousand horsemen, that he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Yaru'shalam.

*The Septuagint mentions four thousand mares here

27 And the king made silver to be in Yaru'shalam as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.

28 And the horses which Shalamah had were brought out of Ma’tsara’ym, and the king's merchants received them in droves, each drove at a price.

29 And a chariot came up and went out of Ma’tsara’ym for six hundred of silver, and a horse for one hundred fifty, and so for all the kings of the Khath'ya, and for the kings of Aram, did they bring them out by their means.

CHAPTER 11

1 Now King Shalamah loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Para'ah: Mu’ab’yuth, Aman’yuth, Adam’yth, Tsadan'yth, and Khath'yth,

2 of the nations concerning which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said to the children of Yashar'AL, "You shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their idols." Shalamah joined to these in love.

3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines, and his wives turned away his heart.

4 For it came to be, when Shalamah was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other idols, and his heart was not whole with 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) His ALUAH, as was the heart of Dau'yad his father.

5 For Shalamah went after ash'tharath the idols of the Tsadan'ym, and after malkam the abomination of the Aman'ym.

6 And Shalamah did that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and did not go fully after 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), as did Dau'yad his father.

7 Then did Shalamah build a high place for kamush (kamoosh) the abomination of Mu'ab, on the mountain that is before Yaru'shalam, and for malak the abomination of the children of Amun.

8 So did he for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and slaughtered to their idols.

9 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) was angry with Shalamah, because his heart was turned away from 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH)‪, The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, who had appeared to him twice,

10 and had commanded him concerning the word, that he should not go after other idols: but he did not keep that which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) commanded.

11 Therefore 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said to Shalamah: “Because this is done by you, and you have not kept My Bar’yath (covenant) and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the reign from you, and will give it unto your servant.

12 Notwithstanding I will not do it in your days, for Dau'yad your father's sake, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.

13 However I will not tear away all the reign, but I will give one tribe to your son, for Dau'yad My servant's sake, and for Yaru'shalam's sake which I have chosen."

14 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) raised up an adversary to Shalamah, Hadad the Adam'ya: he was of the king's seed in Adum.

15 And it came to be, when Dau'yad was in Adum, and Yahu'ab the captain of the army was gone up to bury the slain, and had struck every male in Adum,

16 for Yahu'ab and all Yashar'AL remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Adum,

17 that Hadad fled, he and certain Adam'ya’ym of his father's servants with him, to go into Ma’tsara’ym, Hadad being yet a little child.

18 And they arose out of Mada’yan, and came to Paran, and they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Ma’tsara’ym, to Para'ah king of Ma’tsara’ym, who gave him a house, and appointed him food, and gave him land.

19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Para'ah, so that he gave him as wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Thakh’pana’yas the sovereigness.

20 And the sister of Thakh’pana’yas* bore him Ganab’tha his son, whom Thakh’panas* weaned in Para'ah's house, and Ganab’tha was in Para'ah's house among sons of Para'ah.

*This is another instance wherein the Masoretic uses two different letterings for the same name within the same verse

21 And Hadad heard in Ma’tsara’ym that Dau'yad lay down with his fathers, and that Yahu'ab the captain of the army was dead, Hadad said to Para'ah, "Let me depart, that I may go to my own land."

22 Then Para'ah said to him, "But what have you lacked with me, that behold, you seek to go to your own land?" And he answered, "Nothing, however only let me depart."

23 And ALUAH raised up an adversary to him, Razun (Razoon) son of AL’yada, who had fled from his sovereign Hadad’azar king of Tsubah.

24  And he gathered men to him, and became captain over a troop, when Dau'yad slew them: and they went to Damashaq, and dwelled therein, and reigned in Damashaq.

25 And he was an adversary to Yashar'AL all the days of Shalamah, besides the mischief that Hadad: and he abhorred Yashar'AL, and reigned over Aram.

26 And Yarab'am son of Nabat, an Apar’tha’ya from the Tsara’dah, a servant of Shalamah, whose mother's name was Tsarua’ah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king.

27 And this was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Shalamah built Malua, and repaired the breach of the city of Dau'yad his father.

28 And the man Yarab'am was a mighty man of valor, and Shalamah saw the young man that he did work, and he put him in charge of all the labor of the house of Yahu’sap.

29 And it came to be at that time, when Yarab'am went out of Yaru'shalam, that the nab’ya (prophet) Akh'Yah the Sha'yalan'ya found him in the way, and he had clad himself with a new garment, and they two were alone in the field.

30 And Akh'Yah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces.

31 And he said to Yarab'am, "Take ten pieces, for thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, 'Behold, I will tear the reign out of the hand of Shalamah, and will give ten tribes to you,

32 but he shall have one tribe, for My servant Dau'yad's sake and for Yaru'shalam's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Yashar'AL,

33 because that they have forsaken Me, and have worshiped to ash'tharath the idol of the Tsadan'ym, to kamush (kamoosh) the idol of Mu'ab, and to malkam the ALUAH of the children of Amun, and they have not walked in My ways, to do that which is right in My eyes, and My statutes and My right rulings, as Dau'yad his father did.

34 “And I will not take the whole reign out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for Dau'yad my servant's sake whom I chose, who kept My commandments and My statutes,

35 but I will take the reign out of his son's hand, and will give it to you, even ten tribes.

36 To his son will I give one tribe, that Dau'yad My servant may have a lamp always before me in Yaru'shalam, the city which I have chosen for Me, to put My Name there.

37 And I will take you, and you shall reign according to all that your being desires, and shall be king over Yashar'AL.

38 And it shall be, if you will listen to all that I command you, and will walk in My ways, and do that which is right in My eyes, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as Dau'yad my servant did, that I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built for Dau'yad, and will give Yashar'AL to you.

39 And I will for this afflict the seed of Dau'yad, but not forever.'"

40 And Shalamah sought therefore to kill Yarab'am, but Yarab'am arose, and fled into Ma’tsara’ym, to Sha’yashaq king of Ma’tsara’ym, and was in Ma’tsara’ym until the death of Shalamah.

41 And the rest of the acts of Shalamah, and all that he did, and his discernment, are they not written in the book of the acts of Shalamah?

42 And the days that Shalamah reigned in Yaru'shalam over all Yashar'AL was forty years.

43 And Shalamah lay down with his fathers, and was buried in the city of Dau'yad his father: and Rakhab'am his son reigned in his place.

CHAPTER 12

1 And Rakhab'am went to Shakam: for all Yashar'AL were come to Shakam to make him king.

2 And it came to be, when Yarab'am son of Nabat heard: and he was yet in Ma’tsara’ym, where he had fled from the face of King Shalamah, and Yarab'am abided in Ma’tsara’ym,

3 and they sent and called him, that Yarab'am and all the assembly of Yashar'AL came, and spoke to Rakhab'am saying,

4 "Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us lighter, and we will serve you."

5 And he said to them, "Depart for three days, then come back to me." And the people departed.

6 And King Rakhab'am took counsel with the elders, who had stood before Shalamah his father while he yet abided, saying, "What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?"

7 And they spoke to him, saying, "If you will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever."

8 But he forsook the counsel of the elders which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

9 And he said to them, "What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, 'Make the yoke that your father did put on us lighter?'"

10 And the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "Thus you shall tell this people who spoke to you, saying, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us,' you shall say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist.

11 Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.'"

12 So Yarab'am and all the people came to Rakhab'am the third day, as the king asked, saying, "Come to me again the third day."

13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the elders which they had given him,

14 and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions."

15 So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a cause brought about of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), that He would establish His word, which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) spoke by Akh'Yah the Sha'yalan'ya to Yarab'am son of Nabat.

16 And all Yashar'AL saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What portion have we in Dau'yad? Neither do we have an inheritance in son of Yasha’ya. To your tents, O Yashar'AL! Now see to your own house, Dau'yad." So Yashar'AL departed to their tents.

17 But as for the children of Yashar'AL who abided in the cities of Yahudah, Rakhab'am reigned over them.

18 Then King Rakhab'am sent Adaram, who was over the men subject to forced labor, and all Yashar'AL stoned him to death with stones. And King Rakhab'am made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Yaru'shalam.

19 So Yashar'AL rebelled against the house of Dau'yad to this day.

20 And it came to be, when all Yashar'AL heard that Yarab'am was returned, that they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Yashar'AL: there was none who followed the house of Dau'yad, but the tribe of Yahudah only.

21 When Rakhab'am was come to Yaru'shalam, he assembled all the house of Yahudah, and the tribe of Ban’yaman, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Yashar'AL, to bring the reign again to Rakhab'am son of Shalamah.

22 But the word of ALUAH came to Shama’Yah, a man of ALUAH, saying,

23 "Speak to Rakhab'am son of Shalamah, king of Yahudah, and to all the house of Yahudah and Ban’yama’yan, and to the rest of the people, saying,

24 'Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), "You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers, the children of Yashar'AL. Everyone return to his house, for this word is from Me.” So they listened to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and returned and went their way, according to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

25 Then Yarab'am built Shakam in the mountain of Apara’ym, and abided in it, and he went out from there, and built Panu’AL.

26 And Yarab'am said in his heart, "Now the reign will return to the house of Dau'yad.

27 If this people goes up to offer slaughters in the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) at Yaru'shalam, then the heart of this people will turn again to their sovereign, even to Rakhab'am king of Yahudah, and they will kill me, and return to Rakhab'am king of Yahudah."

28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and he said to them, "It is too much for you to go up to Yaru'shalam. Look and see your idols, O Yashar'AL, which brought you up out of the land of Ma’tsara’ym!"

29 And he placed the one in Bayath AL, and the other put he in Dan.

30 And this matter became for transgression, and the people went before the one, even to Dan.

31 And he made houses of high places, and made ka’ahn’ym (priests) from among all the people, who were not of sons of Lu’ya.

32 And Yarab'am ordained a feast in the eighth month, in fifteen day of the month, like the feast that is in Yahudah, and he went up to the altar, so did he in Bayath AL, slaughtering to the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bayath AL the ka’ahn’ym (priests) of the high places that he had made.

33 And he went up to the altar which he had made in Bayath AL in fifteen day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Yashar'AL, and went up to the altar, to burn incense.

CHAPTER 13

1 Behold, there came a man of ALUAH out of Yahudah by the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) to Bayath AL: and Yarab'am was standing by the altar to burn incense.

2 And he cried against the altar by the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) and said, " O Altar, altar, thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH): 'Behold, a son shall be born to the house of Dau'yad, Ya’asha’Yahu by name. On you he shall slaughter the ka’ahn’ym (priests) of the high places who burn incense on you, and they will burn men's bones on you.'"

3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has spoken: Behold, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out."

4 And it came to be, when the king heard the saying of the man of ALUAH, which he cried against the altar in Bayath AL, that Yarab'am put out his hand from the altar, saying, "Seize him!" Then his hand, which he put out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himself.

5 And the altar also was split apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of ALUAH had given by the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

6 And the king answered the man of ALUAH, "Now entreat the favor of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Your ALUAH, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again." And the man of ALUAH entreated 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and the king's hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.

7 And the king said to the man of ALUAH, "Come home with me, and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward."

8 And the man of ALUAH said to the king, "Even if you gave me half of your house, I would not go in with you, neither would I eat bread nor drink water in this place,

9 for so was it commanded me by the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), saying, 'You shall eat no bread, nor drink water, neither return by the way that you came.'"

10 So he went another way, and did not return by the way that he came to Bayath AL.

11 Now there abided an old nab’ya (prophet) in Bayath AL, and one of his sons came and told him all the works that the man of ALUAH had done that day in Bayath AL. They also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.

12 And their father said to them, "Which way did he go?" Now his sons had seen which way the man of ALUAH went, who came from Yahudah.

13 And he said to his sons, "Saddle the donkey for me." So they saddled the donkey for him, and he rode on it.

14 And he went after the man of ALUAH, and found him sitting under an oak. And he said to him, "Are you the man of ALUAH who came from Yahudah?" And he said, "I am."

15 Then he said to him, "Come home with me, and eat bread."

16 And he said, "I may not return with you, nor go in with you, neither will I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place.

17 For it was said to me by the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), 'You shall eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that you came.'"

18 And he said to him, "I also am a nab’ya (prophet) as you are, and a messenger spoke to me by the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) saying, 'Bring him back with you into your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.'" But he lied to him.

19 So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.

20 And it came to be, as they sat at the table, that the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to the nab’ya (prophet) who brought him back,

21 and he cried to the man of ALUAH who came from Yahudah, saying, "Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), 'Because you disobeyed the mouth of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and have not kept the commandment which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Your ALUAH commanded you,

22 but came back, and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, "Eat no bread, and drink no water," your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.'"

23 And it came to be, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for the nab’ya (prophet) whom he had brought back.

24 When he had gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him. And his body was cast in the way, and the donkey stood by it. And the lion also stood by the body.

25 Behold, men passed by, and saw the body cast in the way, and the lion standing by the body, and they came and told it in the city where the old nab’ya (prophet) abided in.

26 And the nab’ya (prophet) who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, "It is the man of ALUAH who was disobedient to the mouth of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH). Therefore 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has given him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), that He spoke to him."

27 And he spoke to his sons, saying, "Saddle the donkey for me." And they saddled it.

28 And he went and found his body cast in the way, and the donkey and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body, nor mauled the donkey.

29 And the nab’ya (prophet) took up the body of the man of ALUAH, and laid it on the donkey, and brought it back. And he came to the city of the old prophet to mourn, and to bury him.

30 An dhe laid his body in his own grave, and they mourned over him, saying, "Alas, my brother!"

31 And it came to be, after he had buried him, that he spoke to his sons, saying, "When I am dead, then bury me in the tomb in which the man of ALUAH is buried. Lay my bones beside his bones.

32 For the saying which he cried by the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) against the altar in Bayath AL, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Shamar'un (Shamar’oon), will surely come to be.”

33 After this word Yarab'am did not return from his evil way, but again made ka’ahn’ym (priests) of the high places from among all the people. Whoever wanted, he made apart him, that there might be ka’ahn’ym (priests) of the high places.

34 And this became transgression to the house of Yarab'am, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the surface of the earth.

CHAPTER 14

1 At that time Ab’Yah son of Yarab'am fell sick.

2 And Yarab'am said to his wife, "Please arise and disguise yourself, that you will not be recognized as the wife of Yarab'am, and go to Shalah. Behold, there is Akh'Yah the nab’ya (prophet), who spoke concerning me that I should be king over this people.

3 And take with you ten loaves, and cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the child."

4 And Yarab'am's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shalah, and came to the house of Akh'Yah. Now Akh'Yah could not see, for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

5 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said to Akh'Yah, "Behold, the wife of Yarab'am comes to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. Thus and thus you shall tell her, for it will be, when she comes in, that she will make herself strange.”

6 And it was so, when Akh'Yah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, "Come in, you wife of Yarab'am! Why do you pretend to be another? For I am sent to you a sharp [news].

7 Go, tell Yarab'am, 'Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), the ALUAH of Yashar'AL: "Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over My people Yashar'AL,

8 and tore the reign away from the house of Dau'yad, and gave it you, and yet you have not been as My servant Dau'yad, who kept My commandments, and who followed Me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in My eyes,

9 but have done evil above all who were before you, and have gone and made you other idols, and molten images, to provoke Me to anger, and have cast Me behind your back:

10 therefore behold, I will bring evil on the house of Yarab'am, and will cut off from Yarab'am everyone who urinates on a wall, he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Yashar'AL, and will utterly sweep away the house of Yarab'am, as a man sweeps away dung, until it is all gone.

11 He who dies of Yarab'am in the city shall the dogs eat, and he who dies in the field shall the birds of the sky eat: for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has spoken it."'

12 And arise therefore, and go to your house. When your feet enter into the city, the child shall die.

13 And all Yashar'AL shall mourn for him, and bury him, for he only of Yarab'am shall come to the grave, because in him there is found good word toward 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, in the house of Yarab'am.

14 Moreover 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) will raise Him up a king over Yashar'AL, who shall cut off the house of Yarab'am. This is day! And what? Even now.

15 For 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) will strike Yashar'AL, as a reed is shaken in the water, and He will root up Yashar'AL out of this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their wooden images, provoking 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) to anger.

16 And He will give Yashar'AL up because of the transgressions of Yarab'am, which he has transgressed, and with which he has made Yashar'AL to transgress.”

17 And Yarab'am's wife arose and departed, and came to Thar’tsa’thah. As she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.

18 And all Yashar'AL buried him, and mourned for him, according to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), which He spoke by his servant Akh'Yah the nab’ya (prophet).

19 And the rest of the acts of Yarab'am, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yashar'AL.

20 And the days which Yarab'am reigned were two and twenty years: and he lay down with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his place.

21 And Rakhab'am son of Shalamah reigned in Yahudah. Rakhab'am was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Yaru'shalam, the city which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) had chosen out of all the tribes of Yashar'AL, to put His name there: and his mother's name was Nam'ah the Aman'yth.

22 And Yahudah did that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and they provoked Him to jealousy with their transgressions which they committed, above all that their fathers had done.

23 For they also built them high places, and columns, and wooden images, on every high hill, and under every green tree,

24 and there were also cult prostitution in the land: they did according to all the abominations of the nations which 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) drove out before the children of Yashar'AL.

25 And it came to be in the fifth year of king Rakhab'am, that Sha’yashaq king of Ma’tsara’ym came up against Yaru'shalam,

26 and he took away the treasures of the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and the treasures of the king's house, he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Shalamah had made.

27 And King Rakhab'am made in their place shields of bronze, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king's house.

28 And it was so, that as often as the king went into the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), the guard bore them, and brought them back into the guard room.

29 Now the rest of the acts of Rakhab'am, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yahudah?

30 And there was war between Rakhab'am and Yarab'am continually.

31 And Rakhab'am lay down with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of Dau'yad: and his mother's name was Nam'ah the Aman'yth. And Ab'yam his son reigned in his place.

CHAPTER 15

1 And in the eighteenth year of king Yarab'am son of Nabat, began Ab'yam to reign over Yahudah.

2 Three years reigned he in Yaru'shalam: and his mother's name was Makah, daughter* of Ab'ya'shalum.

*Some translations read granddaughter. However, The Septuagint and older translations read daughter

3 And he walked in all the transgressions of his father, which he had done before him, and his heart was not whole with 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) His ALUAH, as the heart of Dau'yad his father.

4 Nevertheless for Dau'yad's sake did 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) His ALUAH give him a lamp in Yaru'shalam, to put up his son after him, and to establish Yaru'shalam,

5 because Dau'yad did that which was right in the eyes of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and did not turn aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his khaYah (life), except only in the matter of Aur’Yah the Khath’ya.

6 Now there was war between Rakhab'am and Yarab'am all the days of his khaYah (life).

7 And the rest of the acts of Ab'yam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yahudah? And there was war between Ab'yam and Yarab'am.

8 And Ab'yam lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of Dau'yad: and Asa his son reigned in his place.

9 And in the twentieth year of Yarab'am king of Yashar'AL, began Asa to reign over Yahudah.

10 And forty-one years reigned he in Yaru'shalam: and his mother's name was Makah daughter of Ab'ya'shalum.

11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), as did Dau'yad his father.

12 and he put away the cult prostitutes out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.

13 And also Makah his mother he removed from being sovereigness, because she had made an abominable image for an Asharah, and Asa cut down her image, and burnt it at the brook Qadar'un (Qadar'oon).

14 But the high places were not taken away: nevertheless the heart of Asa was whole with 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) all his days.

15 And he brought into the House of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) the made apart items that his father had dedicated, and the made apart items that himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

16 And there was war between Asa and Basha king of Yashar'AL all their days.

17 And Basha king of Yashar'AL went up against Yahudah, and built Ramah, that he might not allow anyone to go out or come in to Asa king of Yahudah.

18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and the treasures of the king's house, and gave them into the hand of his servants, and king Asa sent them to Ban Hadad, son of Tabar’man, son of Khaz’yun, king of Aram, who abided in Damashaq, saying,

19 "There is a Bar’yath (treaty) between me and you, between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent to you a bribe of silver and gold. Go, break your Bar’yath (treaty) with Basha king of Yashar'AL, that he may depart from me."

20 And Ban Hadad listened to king Asa, and sent the captains of his hosts against the cities of Yashar'AL, and struck Ayun (Uh’yoon), and Dan, and Abal Bayath Makah, and all Kanar’uth (Kanar’ooth), with all the land of Nap'thal'ya.

21 And it came to be, when Basha heard of it, that he left off building Ramah, and dwelled in Thar'tsah.

22 Then king Asa made a proclamation to all Yahudah, none was exempted: and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and its timber, with which Basha had built, and king Asa built therewith Gaba of Ban’yaman, and Ha’Ma’tsapah.

23 Now the rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yahudah? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.

24 And Asa lay down with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of Dau'yad his father, and Yahu'shapat his son reigned in his place.

25 And Nadab son of Yarab'am began to reign over Yashar'AL in the second year of Asa king of Yahudah, and he reigned over Yashar'AL two years.

26 And he did that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and walked in the way of his father, and in his transgression with which he made Yashar'AL transgress.

27 And Basha son of Akh'Yah, of the house of Ya'shasha'kar, conspired against him, and Basha struck him in Gabath'un (Gabath’oon), which belonged to the Palash'tha'ym, for Nadab and all Yashar'AL were laying siege to Gabath'un.

28 And in year three of Asa king of Yahudah did Basha kill him, and reigned in his place.

29 And it came to be, that as soon as he was king, he struck all the house of Yarab'am: he did not leave to Yarab'am any who breathed, until he had destroyed him, according to the saying of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), which He spoke by his servant Akh'Yah the Sha'yalan'ya,

30 for the transgressions of Yarab'am which he transgressed, and with which he made Yashar'AL to transgress, because of his provocation with which he provoked 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, to anger.

31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yashar'AL?

32 And there was war between Asa and Basha king of Yashar'AL all their days.

33 In year three of Asa king of Yahudah began Basha son of Akh'Yah to reign over all Yashar'AL in Thar'tsah: twenty-four years.

34 And he did that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and walked in the way of Yarab'am, and in his transgression with which he made Yashar'AL transgress.

CHAPTER 16

1 And the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to Yahu'a son of Khanan'ya against Basha, saying,

2 "Because I exalted you out of the dust, and made you ruler over My people Yashar'AL, and you have walked in the way of Yarab'am, and have made My people Yashar'AL transgress, to provoke Me to anger with their transgressions,

3 behold, I will utterly sweep away Basha and his house, and I will make your house like the house of Yarab'am son of Nabat.

4 The dogs will eat Basha's descendants who die in the city, and he who dies of his in the field the birds of the sky will eat."

5 Now the rest of the acts of Basha, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yashar'AL?

6 And Basha lay down with his fathers, and was buried in Thar'tsah, and AL'ah his son reigned in his place.

7 Moreover by the nab’ya (prophet) Yahu'a son of Khanan'ya came the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) against Basha, and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), to provoke Him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Yarab'am, and because he struck him.

8 In year twenty and six of Asa king of Yahudah began AL'ah son of Basha to reign over Yashar'AL in Thar'tsah: two years.

9 And his servant Zamara’ya, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him. Now he was in Thar'tsah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Ar'tsa, who was over the household in Thar'tsah:

10 and Zamara’ya went in and struck him, and killed him, in year twenty and seven of Asa king of Yahudah, and reigned in his place.

11 And it came to be, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he struck all the house of Basha: he did not leave him a single one who urinates on a wall, neither of his relatives, nor of his friends.

12 Thus Zamara’ya destroyed all the house of Basha, according to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), which he spoke against Basha by Yahu'a the nab’ya (prophet),

13 for all the transgressions of Basha, and the transgressions of AL'ah his son, which they transgressed, and with which they made Yashar'AL to sin, to provoke 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, to anger with their vanities.

14 Now the rest of the acts of AL'ah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yashar'AL?

15 In year twenty and seven of Asa king of Yahudah did Zamara’ya reign seven days in Thar'tsah. Now the people were encamped against Gabath'un, which belonged to the Palash'tha'ym.

16 And the people who were encamped heard say, Zamara’ya has conspired, and has also struck the king: therefore all Yashar'AL made Amar'ya, the captain of the army, king over Yashar'AL that day in the camp.

17 And Amar'ya went up from Gabath'un, and all Yashar'AL with him, and they besieged Thar'tsah.

18 And it came to be, when Zamara’ya saw that the city was taken, that he went into the castle of the king's house, and burnt the king's house over him with fire, and died,

19 for his transgressions which he transgressed in doing that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), in walking in the way of Yarab'am, and in his transgressionn which he did, to make Yashar'AL transgress.

20 Now the rest of the acts of Zamara’ya, and his treason that he did, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yashar'AL?

21 Then were the people of Yashar'AL divided into two parts: half of the people followed Thaban'ya son of Ga'ya'nath, to make him king, and half followed Amar'ya.

22 But the people who followed Amar'ya prevailed against the people who followed Thaban'ya son of Ga'ya'nath: so Thaban'ya died, and Amar'ya reigned.

23 In year thirty and one, year of Asa king of Yahudah, began Amar'ya to reign over Yashar'AL: twelve years, six years reigned he in Thar'tsah.

24 And he bought the hill Shamar'un of Shamar for two talents of silver, and he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shamar, the owner of the hill, Shamar'un.

25 And Amar'ya did that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and dealt wickedly above all who were before him.

26 For he walked in all the way of Yarab'am son of Nabat, and in his transgressions with which he made Yashar'AL transgress, to provoke 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, to anger with their vanities.

27 Now the rest of the acts of Amar'ya which he did, and his might that he showed, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yashar'AL?

28 So Amar'ya lay down with his fathers, and was buried in Shamar'un, and Akh'ab his son reigned in his place.

29 And in year thirty and eight year of Asa king of Yahudah, began Akh'ab son of Amar'ya to reign over Yashar'AL: and Akh'ab son of Amar'ya reigned over Yashar'AL in Shamar'un twenty and two years.

30 And Akh'ab son of Amar'ya did that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) above all that were before him.

31 And it came to be, as if it had been light for him to walk in the transgressions of Yarab'am son of Nabat, that he took as wife A'yaza'bal daughter of Ath’ba’al king of the Tsadan'ym, and went and served Ba’al, and worshiped him.

32 And he raised up an altar for Ba’al in the house of Ba’al, which he had built in Shamar'un.

33 And Akh'ab made the asharah, and Akh'ab did yet more to provoke 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, to anger than all the kings of Yashar'AL who were before him.

34 In his days did Kha’Yah’AL the Bayath AL’ya build Yara'yakhu: he laid its foundation with Ab’yaram his firstborn, and put up its gates with his youngest son Shagub (Sha’goob), according to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), which he spoke by Yahusha son of Nun (Noon).

CHAPTER 17

1 And AL'Yahu the Tha'shab'ya, who was of the foreigners of Gal'ad, said to Akh'ab, "As 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), the ALUAH of Yashar'AL, Abides, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word."

2 And the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to him, saying,

3 "Go away from here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Kar'yath, that is before the Yardan.

4 And it shall be, that you shall drink of the brook. And I have commanded the ravens to feed you there."

5 So he went and did according to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), for he went and abided by the brook Kar'yath, that is before the Yardan.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the rising, and bread and flesh in the evening, and he drank of the brook.

7 And it came to be after days that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

8 And the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to him saying,

9"Arise, go to Tsar'path'ah, which belongs to Tsa’yadun (Tsa’ya’doon), and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you."

10 So he arose and went to Tsar'path'ah, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks: and he called to her and said, "Please get me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink."

11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her, and said, "Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand."

12 And she said, "As 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Your ALUAH Abides, I do not have a cake, but a handful of flour in the jar, and a little oil in the jar. Behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die."

13 And AL'Yahu said to her, "Do not be afraid. Go and do as you have said, but make me of it a little cake first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for you and for your son.

14 For thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, 'The jar of flour shall not empty, neither shall the jar of oil fail, until the day that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) sends rain on the earth.'"

15 So she went and did according to the saying of AL'Yahu: and she, and he, and her house, ate: Days.

16 The jar of flour did not empty, neither did the jar of oil fail, according to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), which He spoke by AL'Yahu.

17 And it came to be after the words, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick, and his sickness was so severe, that there was no breath left in him.

18 And she said to AL'Yahu, "What have I to do with you, you man of ALUAH? Have you come to me to bring my transgression to memory, and to kill my son?”

19 And he said to her, "Give me your son." So he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the room where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed.

20 And he cried to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and he said: “O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) MY ALUAH, have You also brought evil on the widow with whom I stay, by killing her son?"

21 And he stretched himself on the child three times, and cried to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) and said, “O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) MY ALUAH, please let this child's being come into him again."

22 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), He will hear the voice of AL'Yahu, and the being of the child came into him again, and he revived.

23 And AL'Yahu took the child, and brought him down out of the room into the house, and gave him to his mother, and AL'Yahu said, "Behold, your son khaYah (abides).”

24 And the woman said to AL'Yahu: "Now I know that you are a man of ALUAH, and that the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) in your mouth is truth."

CHAPTER 18

1 And it came to be, many days, that the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to AL'Yahu, in the third year, saying, "Go, show yourself to Akh'ab, and I will send rain on the earth."

2 And AL'Yahu went to show himself to Akh'ab. And the famine was severe in Shamar'un.

3 And Akh'ab called Abada'Yahu, who was over the household. Now Abada'Yahu feared 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) greatly:

4 for it was so, when A'yaza'bal cut off the nab’ya’ya (prophets) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), that Abada'Yahu took one hundred nab’ya’ya (prophets), and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.

5 And Akh'ab said to Abada'Yahu, "Go through the land, to all the springs of water, and to all the brooks. Perhaps we may find grass and save the horses and mules alive, that we not lose all the livestock."

6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Akh'ab went one way by himself, and Abada'Yahu went another way by himself.

7 As Abada'Yahu was in the way, behold, AL'Yahu met him: and he recognized him, and fell on his face, and said, "Is it you, my sovereign AL'Yahu?"

8 And he answered him, "It is I. Go, tell your sovereign, 'Behold, AL'Yahu is here!'"

9 And he said, "Wherein have I transgressed, that you would give your servant into the hand of Akh'ab, to kill me?

10 As 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Your ALUAH Abides, there is no nation or reign, where my sovereign has not sent to seek you. When they said, 'He is not here,' he took an oath of the reign and nation, that they did not find you.

11 Now you say, 'Go, tell your sovereign, "Behold, AL'Yahu is here."'

12 And it will be, as soon as I am gone from you, that the RUKH of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) will carry you I do not know where, and so when I come and tell Akh'ab, and he cannot find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) from my youth.

13 Was it not told my sovereign what I did when A'yaza'bal killed the nab’ya’ya (prophets) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), how I hid one hundred men of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH)'s nab’ya’ya (prophets) with fifty to a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

14 Now you say, 'Go, tell your sovereign, "Behold, AL'Yahu is here,"' and he will kill me."

15 And AL'Yahu said, "As 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) of hosts Abides, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him today."

16 So Abada'Yahu went to meet Akh'ab, and told him, and Akh'ab went to meet AL'Yahu.

17 And it came to be, when Akh'ab saw AL'Yahu, that Akh'ab said to him, "Is that you, you troubler of Yashar'AL?"

18 And he answered, "I have not troubled Yashar'AL, but you, and your father's house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and you have followed the Ba’al’ym.

19 Now therefore send and gather to me all Yashar'AL to Mount Ha’Karmal, and four hundred and fifty of the prophets of Ba'al, and four hundred of the prophets of the asharah, who eat at A'yaza'bal's table."

20 So Akh'ab sent to all the children of Yashar'AL, and gathered the nab’ya’ym (prophets) together to Mount Karmal.

21 And AL'Yahu came near to all the people, and said, "How long will you waver between the two sides? If 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) IS ALUAH, follow him, but if Ba'al, then follow him." The people answered him not a word.

22 Then AL'Yahu said to the people, "I, even I only, am left a nab’ya (prophet) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), but Ba'al's nab’ya’ya (prophets) are four hundred and fifty men.

23 Let them therefore give us two bulls, and let them choose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under, and I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under it.

24 And you call on the name of your mighty one, and I will call on The Name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH). The ALUAH who answers by fire, let Him be ALUAH." All the people answered: “The word is good.”

25 And AL'Yahu said to the nab’ya’ya (prophets) of Ba'al, "Choose one bull for yourselves, and prepare it first, for you are many, and call on the name of your mighty one, but put no fire under it."

26 So they took the bull which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Ba'al from rising even until noon, saying: Ba'al, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any who answered. And they leaped about the altar which was made.

27 And it came to be at noon, that AL'Yahu mocked them and said, "Cry aloud, for he is a mighty one. Either he is musing, or he has gone aside, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps and must be awakened."

28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves in their way with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them.

29 And it was so, when midday was past, that they nab’a (prophesied) until the time of the offering of the offering, but there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any who regarded.

30 And AL'Yahu said to all the people: "Come near to me," and all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) that was thrown down.

31 And AL'Yahu took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of sons of Ya'aqab, to whom the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came, saying, "Yashar'AL shall be your name."

32 And with the stones he built an altar in The Name OF 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH). And he made a trench around the altar, large enough to contain two measures of seed.

33 And he arranged the wood and cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood. And he said, "Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt offering, and on the wood."

34 And he said, "Do it a second time," and they did it the second time. He said, "Do it a third time," and they did it the third time.

35 And the water ran around the altar, and he also filled the trench with water.

36 And it came to be at the time of the offering of the offering, that AL'Yahu the nab’ya (prophet) came near and said, "𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH of Abara’ahm, of Ya’tsakhaq, and of Yashar'AL, let it be known this day that You are ALUAH in Yashar'AL, and that I am Your servant, and that I have done all the words at Your word.

37 Hear me, O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), hear me, that this people may know that You, O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), are ALUAH, and that You have turned their heart back again."

38 Then the fire of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39 When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces. And they said, "𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), HE IS ALUAH! 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), HE IS ALUAH!"

40 And AL'Yahu said to them, "Seize the nab’ya’ya (prophets) of Ba'al! Do not let one of them escape!" So they seized them. And AL'Yahu brought them down to the brook Qa’ya’shun (Qa’ya’shoon), and slew them there.

41 And AL'Yahu said to Akh'ab, "Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of abundance of rain."

42 So Akh'ab went up to eat and to drink. And AL'Yahu went up to the top of Karmal, and he bowed himself down on the earth, and put his face between his knees.

43 And he said to his servant, "Go up now, look toward the sea." So he went up and looked and said, "There is nothing." And he said, "Go again" seven times.

44 And it came to be at the seventh that he said, "Behold, a small cloud, like a man's hand, is rising out of the sea." And he said, "Go up, tell Akh'ab, 'Get ready and go down, so that the rain does not stop you.'"

45 And it came to be in a little while, that the sky grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. Akh'ab rode, and went to Yazara'AL.

46 And the hand of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) was on AL'Yahu, and he girded his loins and ran before Akh'ab to the entrance of Yazara'AL.

CHAPTER 19

1 And Akh'ab told A'yaza'bal all that AL'Yahu had done, and how he had slew all the prophets with the sword.

2 Then A'yaza'bal sent a messenger to AL'Yahu saying, "So let the idols do to me, and more also, if I do not make your being as the being of one of them by tomorrow about this time!"

3 When he saw that, he arose, and ran for his being, and came to Ba'ar Shaba, which belongs to Yahudah, and left his servant there.

4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die and said, "It is enough. Now, O 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), take away my being, for I am not better than my fathers."

5 And he lay down and slept under a juniper tree, and behold, a messenger touched him, and said to him, "Arise and eat!"

6 And he looked,and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a jar of water. And he ate and drank, and laid down again.

7 And the messenger of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came again the second time, and touched him and said, "Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you."

8 And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Kharab the Mount of ALUAH.

9 And he came there to a cave, and lodged there, and behold, the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to him, and He said unto him, "What are you doing here, AL'Yahu?"

10 And he said, "I have been very jealous for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH of hosts, for the children of Yashar'AL have forsaken Your Bar’yath (covenant), thrown down Your altars, and slain Your nab’ya’ya (prophets) with the sword. I, even I only, am left, and they seek my being, to take it away."

11 And He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH)." Behold, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), but 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) was not in the wind. After the wind an earthquake, but 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) was not in the earthquake.

12 And after the earthquake a fire passed, but 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13 And it was so, when AL'Yahu heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him, and said, "What are you doing here, AL'Yahu?"

14 And he said, "I have been very jealous for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH of hosts, for the children of Yashar'AL have forsaken Your Bar’yath (covenant), thrown down your altars, and slain your nab’ya’ya (prophets) with the sword. I, even I only, am left, and they seek my being, to take it away."

15 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said to him, "Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damashaq. When you arrive, you shall anoint Khaza'AL to be king over Aram.

16 And you shall anoint Yahu'a son of Namash'ya to be king over Yashar'AL, and you shall anoint AL'yasha son of Shaphat from Abal Makhu'lah to be nab’ya (prophet) in your place.

17 And it will be, that he who escapes from the sword of Khaza'AL, Yahu'a will kill, and he who escapes from the sword of Yahu'a, AL'yasha will kill.

18 Yet will I leave seven thousand in Yashar'AL, all the knees which have not bowed to Ba'al, and every mouth which has not kissed him."

19 So he departed there, and found AL'yasha son of Shaphat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke to his face, and he with the twelfth: and AL'Yahu passed over to him, and cast his mantle on him.

20 And he left the oxen and ran after AL'Yahu, and said, "Let me please kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." And he said to him, "Go back again, for what have I done to you?"

21 And he returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and slaughtered them, and cooked their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, and went after AL'Yahu, and served him.

CHAPTER 20

1 And Ban Hadad king of Aram gathered all his army together, and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses and chariots: and he went up and besieged Shamar'un, and fought against it.

2 And he sent messengers to Akh'ab king of Yashar'AL, into the city, and said to him, "Thus says Ban Hadad,

3 'Your silver and your gold are mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.'"

4 And the king of Yashar'AL answered, "It is according to your saying, my sovereign, O king. I am yours, and all that I have."

5 And the messengers came again and said, "Ban Hadad says, 'I sent indeed to you, saying, "You shall give me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children,

6 but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants, and it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand and take it away.”

7 Then the king of Yashar'AL called all the elders of the land and said, "Please know how this man seeks mischief, for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I did not deny him."

8 And all the elders and all the people said to him, "Do not listen, neither consent."

9 Therefore he said to the messengers of Ban Hadad, "Tell my sovereign the king, 'All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do, but the word I cannot do.'" And the messengers departed, and brought him back the message.

10 And Ban Hadad sent to him, and said, "The idols do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Shamar'un shall suffice for handfuls for all the people who follow me."

11 And the king of Yashar'AL answered, "Tell him, 'Do not let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.'"

12 And it came to be, when Ban Hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the pavilions, that he said to his servants, "Prepare yourselves!” And they prepared to attack the city.

13 And behold, a nab’ya (prophet) came near to Akh'ab king of Yashar'AL and said, "Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), 'Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will give it into your hand this day, and you shall know that I am 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).'"

14 And Akh'ab said, "By whom?" And he said, "Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), 'By the young men of the princes of the provinces.'" Then he said, "Who shall begin the battle?" And he answered, "You."

15 Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Yashar'AL, being seven thousand.

16 And they went out at noon. But Ban Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings who helped him.

17 And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first, and Ban Hadad sent out, and they told him saying, "Men are coming out from Shamar'un!”

18 And he said, "If they have come out for shalum (peace), take them alive, or if they have come out for war, take them alive."

19 So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them.

20 And they each killed his man. And Aramn fled, and Yashar'AL pursued them. And Ban Hadad the king of Aram escaped on a horse with horsemen.

21 And the king of Yashar'AL went out, and struck the horses and chariots, and slew in Aramn with a great slaughter.

22 And the nab’ya (prophet) came near to the king of Yashar'AL and said to him, "Go, strengthen yourself, and understand, and see what you do, for at the return of the year the king of Aram will come up against you."

23 And the servants of the king of Aram said to him, "Their mighty ones are mighty ones of the mountains, therefore they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

24 Do the word: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their place.

25 And number an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot. We will fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than them." And he listened to their voice and did so.

26 And it came to be at the return of the year, that Ban Hadad mustered Aram, and went up to Apaqah, to fight against Yashar'AL.

27 And the children of Yashar'AL were mustered, and were provisioned, and went against them. The children of Yashar'AL encamped before them like two little flocks of young goats, but Aram filled the land.

28 And man of ALUAH came near and spoke to the king of Yashar'AL and said, "Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), 'Because Aram has said, "𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) IS ALUAH of the mountains, but He is not ALUAH of the valleys," therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).'"

29 And they encamped one over against the other seven days. So it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined, and the children of Yashar'AL killed one hundred thousand footmen of Aram in one day.

30 But the rest fled to Apaqah, into the city, and the wall fell on twenty and seven thousand men who were left. And Ban Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.

31 And his servants said to him, "See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Yashar'AL are kind kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Yashar'AL. Perhaps he will revive your being.”

32 So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Yashar'AL and said, "Your servant Ban Hadad says, 'Please let me abide.'" And he said, "Is he still alive? He is my brother."

33 Now the men observed diligently, and hurried to take this phrase, and they said, "Your brother Ban Hadad." Then he said, "Go bring him." Then Ban Hadad came out to him, and he caused him to come up into the chariot.

34 And Ban Hadad said to him, "The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damashaq, as my father made in Shamar'un." "I," said Akh'ab, "will let you go with this Bar’yath (covenant).” So he made a Bar’yath (covenant) with him, and let him go.

35 And a certain man of sons of the nab’ya’ym (prophets) said to his fellow by the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), "Please strike me!" But the man refused to strike him.

36 Then he said to him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall kill you." And when he was departed from him, a lion found him and killed him.

37 Then he found another man and said, "Please strike me." And the man struck him, smiting and wounding him.

38 So the nab’ya (prophet) departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with a bandage over his eyes.

39 And as the king passed by, he cried to the king, and he said, "Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, 'Guard this man! If by any means he be missing, then your being shall be for his being, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.'

40 And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone." And the king of Yashar'AL said to him, "So your right ruling shall be, yourself have decided it."

41 And he hurried, and took the bandage away from his eyes, and the king of Yashar'AL recognized that he was of the naba’ym (prophets).

42 And he said to him, "Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), 'Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your being shall go for his being, and your people for his people.'"

43 And the king of Yashar'AL went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Shamar'un.

CHAPTER 21

1 And it came to be after these matters, that Nab'uth (Nab’ooth) the Yazara'AL'ya had a vineyard, which was in Yazara'AL, near the palace of Akh'ab king of Shamar'un.

2 And Akh'ab spoke to Nab'uth saying, "Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near to my house, and I will give you for it a better vineyard than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in silver.”

3 And Nab'uth said to Akh'ab, "𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!"

4 And Akh'ab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Nab'uth the Yazara'AL'ya had spoken to him, for he had said, "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers." And he laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

5 But A'yaza'bal his wife came to him and said to him, "Why is your rukh so sad, that you eat no bread?"

6 And he said to her, "Because I spoke to Nab'uth the Yazara'AL'ya, and said to him, 'Give me your vineyard for silver, or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.' And he answered, 'I will not give you my vineyard.'"

7 And A'yaza'bal his wife said to him, "Do you now govern the reign of Yashar'AL? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Nab'uth the Yazara'AL'ya."

8 So she wrote letters in Akh'ab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, who abided with Nab'uth.

9 And she wrote in the letters, saying: "Proclaim a fast, and seat Nab'uth on high Amang the people.

10 and seat two men, sons of wickedness before him, and let them witness against him, saying, 'You cursed ALUAH and the king!' Then carry him out, and stone him to death."

11 And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who abided in his city, did as A'yaza'bal had sent to them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.

12 They proclaimed a fast, and seated Nab'uth on high Amang the people.

13 And the two men, sons of wickedness, came in and sat before him. And the sons of wickedness witnessed against him, even against Nab'uth before the people, saying, "Nab'uth cursed ALUAH and the king!" Then they carried him out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones.

14 Then they sent to A'yaza'bal, saying, "Nab'uth has been stoned, and is dead."

15 And it came to be, when A'yaza'bal heard that Nab'uth was stoned, and was dead, that A'yaza'bal said to Akh'ab, "Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Nab'uth the Yazara'AL'ya, which he refused to give you for silver, for Nab'uth is not alive but dead."

16 And it came to be, when Akh'ab heard that Nab'uth was dead, that Akh'ab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Nab'uth the Yazara'AL'ya, to take possession of it.

17 And the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to AL'Yahu the Tha'shab'ya saying,

18 "Arise, go down to meet Akh'ab king of Yashar'AL, who dwells in Shamar'un. Behold, he is in the vineyard of Nab'uth, where he has gone down to take possession of it.

19 And yu shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), "Have you killed and also taken possession?"' And you shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), "In the place where dogs licked the blood of Nab'uth, dogs will lick your blood, even yours.”

20 And Akh'ab said to AL'Yahu, "Have you found me, my enemy?" And he answered, "I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH).

21 Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Akh'ab everyone who urinates against a wall, and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Yashar'AL.

22 And I will make your house like the house of Yarab'am son of Nabat, and like the house of Basha son of Akh'Yah for the provocation with which you have provoked Me to anger, and have made Yashar'AL transgress.”

23 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) also spoke of A'yaza'bal saying, "The dogs shall eat A'yaza'bal by the rampart of Yazara'AL.

24 And the dogs will eat he who dies of Akh'ab in the city, and the birds of the sky will eat he who dies in the field."

25 But there was none like Akh'ab, who sold himself to do that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), whom A'yaza'bal his wife stirred up.

26 And he acted very abominably to follow the idols, according to all that the Amar'ya did, whom 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) cast out before the children of Yashar'AL.

27 And it came to be, when Akh'ab heard those words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

28 And the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) came to AL'Yahu the Tha'shab'ya, saying,

29 "See how Akh'ab humbles himself before Me? Because he humbles himself before Me, I will not bring the evil in his days, but in his son's days will I bring the evil on his house."

CHAPTER 22

1 And they continued three years without war between Aram and Yashar'AL.

2 And it came to be in the third year, that Yahu'shapat the king of Yahudah came down to the king of Yashar'AL.

3 And the king of Yashar'AL said to his servants, "You know that Ramath Gal'ad is ours, and we are still, and do not take it out of the hand of the king of Aram?"

4 And he said to Yahu'shapat, "Will you go with me to battle to Ramath Gal'ad?" And Yahu'shapat said to the king of Yashar'AL, "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."

5 And Yahu'shapat said to the king of Yashar'AL, "Please inquire first for the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH)."

6 Then the king of Yashar'AL gathered the nab’ya’ym (prophets) together, as four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go against Ramath Gal'ad to battle, or shall I forbear?" They said, "Go up, for the sovereign will give it into the hand of the king."

7 But Yahu'shapat said, "Is there not here a nab’ya (prophet) of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), that we may inquire of him?"

8 And the king of Yashar'AL said to Yahu'shapat, "There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), Mayaka'Yahu son of Ya'malah,* but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil." And Yahu'shapat said, "Do not let the king say so."

9 Then the king of Yashar'AL called an officer and said, “Hasten, get Mayaka'Yahu son of Ya'malah."*

10 Now the king of Yashar'AL and Yahu'shapat the king of Yahudah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Shamar'un, and all the nab’ya’ym (prophets) were naba’ym (prophesying) before them.

11 And Tsadaq'Yah son of Kanan'ah made him horns of iron and said, "Thus says 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), 'With these you shall push Aram, until they are consumed.'"

12 And all the naba’ym (prophets) prophesied so, saying, "Go up to Ramath Gal'ad, and prosper, for 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) will give it into the hand of the king."

13 And the messenger who went to call Mayaka'Yahu spoke to him, saying, "See now, the nab’ya’ym (prophets) declare good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good."

14 And Mayaka'Yahu said, "As 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) Abides, what 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) says to me, that I will speak."

15 When he had come to the king, the king said to him, "Mayaka'Yahu, shall we go to Ramath Gal'ad to battle, or shall we forbear?" And he answered him, "Go up and prosper, and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) will give it into the hand of the king."

16 And the king said to him, "How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH)?"

17 And he said, "I saw all Yashar'AL scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said, 'These have no sovereign. Let them each return to his house in shalum (peace).’”

18 And the king of Yashar'AL said to Yahu'shapat, "Did I tell you not that he would not nab’a (prophesy) good concerning me, but evil?"

19 And Mayaka'Yahu said, "Therefore hear the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH). I saw 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) sitting on His throne, and all the army of shama'ym standing by Him on his right hand and on his left.

20 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said, 'Who shall entice Akh'ab, that he may go up and fall at Ramath Gal'ad?' One said this, and another said another.

21 And a rukh came out and stood before 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) and said, 'I will entice him.'

22 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) said to him, 'How?' And he said, 'I will go out and will be a lying rukh in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he said, 'You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.'

23 Now therefore, behold, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has put a lying rukh in the mouth of all these your nab’ya’ya (prophets), and 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has spoken evil concerning you."

24 Then Tsadaq'Yah son of Kanan'ah came near, and struck Mayaka'Yahu on the cheek and said, "Where did The RUKH OF 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) go from me to speak to you?"

25 And Mayaka'Yahu said, "Behold, you will see on that day, when you go into an inner room to hide yourself."

26 And the king of Yashar'AL said, "Take Mayaka'Yahu, and carry him back to Aman the governor of the city, and to Yahu’ash the king's son.

27 and say, 'Thus says the king, "Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in shalum (peace).”

28 And Mayaka'Yahu said, "If you return at all in shalum (peace), 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) has not spoken by me." And he said, “Hear, all you people!"

29 So the king of Yashar'AL and Yahu'shapat the king of Yahudah went up to Ramath Gal'ad.

30 And the king of Yashar'AL said to Yahu'shapat, "I will disguise myself, and go into the battle, but you put on your robes." And the king of Yashar'AL disguised himself, and went into the battle.

31 Now the king of Aram had commanded the thirty and two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, except only with the king of Yashar'AL.

32 And it came to be, when the captains of the chariots saw Yahu'shapat, that they said, "Surely that is the king of Yashar'AL!" and they turned aside to fight against him. And Yahu'shapat cried out.

33 And it came to be, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Yashar'AL, that they turned back from pursuing him.

34 And a certain man drew his bow to integrity, and struck the king of Yashar'AL between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, "Turn your hand, and carry me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded."

35 And the battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing Aram, and died at evening. And the blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.

36 And a cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun saying, "Every man to his city, and every man to his land!"

37 So the king died, and was brought to Shamar'un, and they buried the king in Shamar'un.

38 And they washed the chariot by the pool of Shamar'un, and the dogs licked up his blood where the whores washed themselves, according to the word of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH) which He spoke.

39 Now the rest of the acts of Akh'ab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yashar'AL?

40 So Akh'ab lay down with his fathers, and Akhaz'Yahu his son reigned in his place.

41 And Yahu'shapat son of Asa began to reign over Yahudah in year four of Akh'ab king of Yashar'AL.

42 And Yahu'shapat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Yaru'shalam. And his mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shalakh’ya.

43 And he walked in all the way of Asa his father, he did not turn aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH): however the high places were not taken away, for the people slaughtered and burnt incense in the high places.

44 And Yahu'shapat, he will make shalam (peace) with the king of Yashar'AL.

45 Now the rest of the acts of Yahu'shapat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of words of the days of the kings of Yahudah?

46 And the remnant of the cult prostitution, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land.

47 And there was no king in Adum: a deputy was king.

48 And Yahu'shapat made ships of Tharash'yash to go to A’up’yarah (A’oop’yarah) for gold: but they did not go, for the ships were broken at A'tsa'yun Gabar.

49 Then Akhaz'Yahu son of Akh'ab said to Yahu'shapat, "Let my servants go with your servants in the ships." But Yahu'shapat would not.

50 And Yahu'shapat lay down with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of Dau'yad his father, Yahu'ram his son reigned in his place.

51 Akhaz'Yahu son of Akh'ab began to reign over Yashar'AL in Shamar'un in the seventeenth year of Yahu'shapat king of Yahudah, and he reigned two years over Yashar'AL.

52 And he did that which was evil in the sight of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Yarab'am son of Nabat, in which he made Yashar'AL transgress.

53 And he served Ba'al and worshiped him, and provoked to anger 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YAHUAH), The ALUAH OF Yashar'AL, according to all that his father had done.
